We have hundreds of thousands of songs and music videos, and our Playlist team has crafted thousands of custom playlists for different brands. From day one, you’ll have access to our selection of pre-built playlists designed for different dayparts and demographics. If you don’t hear the perfect sound for your brand, we can create customized playlists that complement your ideal guest experience! From the current chart toppers, rock classics, the best remixes, or indie artists, we have it all. Some sample playlist titles include: Girls’ Night Out, ’80s Retro Party, and One-Hit Wonders. Some companies boast that they have millions of songs, and thousands of artists uploading new music every day. But when they go big, we go small. We know exactly what music fits the niche we serve, and every day, our Mixologists only select the best tunes for your brand.
We receive new music from major record labels all the time, which lets us provide you with the most up-to-date playlists available. So,the next time Beyoncé drops a surprise album, we’ve got you covered!
Many of our premade playlists are dynamic, which means they update as soon as a song with the relevant meta-data points gets added to our database.
Absolutely. Our Playlist team is dedicated to helping you create the best guest experience. They’ll ask you who your demographics are, what daypart(s)you want your playlistsschedule for, what genres you want included or excluded, and more. On average, they can put together a custom playlist for you in one business day (although, most of the time it’s quicker than that!).How can I contact the Playlist team?
You can create a basic playlist by searching for specific songs or artists and adding each one manually, or you can design a dynamic playlist that pulls from a specific set of rules that you determine.

You sure can! Our Playlist Builder lets you create playlists using these tools. When you’re adding a song to a playlist you’re currently running, you can view its genre, BPM, and Energy Level by clicking the icon with four squares while you’re searching.
We can also design playlists so that they create a “wave tempo” using our Mixologist-assigned Energy Levels. BPM can be a bit misleading in terms of what kind of energy a song gives off, as some tunes with a high BPM are actually fairly low Energy (example: “Daughters” by John Mayeris actually 125 BPM, but has a very slow, waltz-like Energy, whereas “I Love It” by Icona Pop ft. Charli XCX is 126 BPM and very upbeat and intense).
By assigning every song a Control Play-exclusive Energy Level between 1–5, our playlists can create waves that gradually go up and down in Energy over the course of your daypart.
We know that ten seconds of silence in the middle of a dinner rush can feel like ten years. Control Play believes in a seamless guest experience for your customers, so our prepared playlists feature unparalleled crossfading with no dead air or awkward pauses between songs.
Any adjustments you make may impact the seamless transitions, but our Playlist team manually sets transition points in songs to help minimize disruptions.
All songs and videos available through our service are personally reviewed by our Playlist team before it reaches your venue. When available, we request the radio-edited version of songs so they can be used in the greatest number of venues possible.
All songs available in our library have been reviewed by our Playlist team to guarantee they are suitable to play at your venue. While all songs are edited to be suitable for radio/television, we go a step further by assigning songs and videos to one of four categories: All, PG, Adult, and Explicit. All our playlists are also rated this way to ensure that you can provide the right experience for the right audience, at the right time.
If you’re curious, we’ve created a detailed explanation of our categorized rating system.
Our Playlist team reviews both audio and video separately to provide you with the most accurate ratings. Depending on the visuals shown, music videos may have a different rating than songs with audio only.
Musicians don’t make videos for every song they release, but at Control Play, we look at this limitation as an opportunity. Any song without an available music video can be accompanied by a visualizer, or—even better—your own custom digital signage and infotainment.
Control Play subscribers can upload their own promotional material or purchase custom-made digital signage, which will take over the screens while our music continues to play in the background.
We believe in creating the ultimate guest experience for you and your customers. This means no commercials—unless you upload them yourself using Control Play’s “Infotainment” feature, or if you’ve requested custom digital signage from our production team.
A great side effect of using Control Play is that it acts like built-in ad blocker in real life. You control 100% of what your guests see inside your venue.
All our playlists are built with artist and song separation rules that complement the daypart they’re intended for. If you’ve identified that your restaurant or bar’s average table turnover rate is every hour or two, and you want your customers to hear recognizable hit songs, we might set a Pop or Top 40 playlist so it has more repeats than one dedicated to Classic Hits.
Simply put, some playlists may contain more repeat songs than others, but this can 100% be adjusted. You can create custom playlists and change the separation rules for songs and artists to your liking. If you’re interested, we created a tutorial of our Categorized Library that you can review.
Yes, you can! Control Play is all about customization. We understand that you might want a different atmosphere for different dayparts. You can schedule different playlists for different days of the week, and different parts of the day.

There are 3 levels of Player passwords: Staff, Manager, and Administrator. These levels of access ensure that only the right people are making changes to your music.

Most of the music we listen to is protected by copyright laws. To play any of these songs at your venue, licensing is required. Music licensing is generally broken down into two categories: background and foreground licensing.
If your venue charges a cover fee, has a dance floor, a DJ, or a band, your business will require a foreground license. If you just want music in the background, you can use a background license. Most Performing Rights Organizations (PROs) only require you to have one or the other.
Control Play can provide your licensed venue with background music and music video, and you can rest easy knowing you’re supporting artists legally and giving your customers the best experience.
Control Play is currently only available to venues located in Canada and the United States, and US military bases abroad.
Yes! If you have a favorite playlist already created in one of those platforms, you can send the links to our Playlist team via the Chat feature in your Player, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.They can import them into our library, and if any of those songs have a music video associated with them in our database, the Player will automatically cast them on your screens.
To receive new content, your Player will need to be connected to the internet. However, if your internet disconnects, Control Play has an offline Player built in to ensure that your music continues to play seamlessly for your guests.
You’ll need a Control Play box to get started—don’t worry, we’ll hook you up with that!
A high-speed, wired internet connection will provide the best music and video experience for your guests as opposed to WiFi. Typically, a video distribution system is needed if you’d like to connect multiple televisions. This is called a Video Matrix or Video Splitter.
We usually ship with UPS Ground, so you can anticipate arrival within 5–7 business days after you’ve subscribed to Control Play. Need it faster? We offer expedited shipping options.
Included in the box is a detailed setup guide with pictures. Our Support team can also walk you through the setup step-by-step or answer any questions you have. How can I contact the Support team?
From Day 1, you have access to 20,000+videos on your hard drive. The library is updated daily, and as your Player gets familiar with which artists and genres you play, it begins learning what videos you need.
Depending on how many TVs you have at your location, you’ll need some form of video distribution: a Video Matrix or Video Splitter. If you already have one, Control Play is very easy to add to your venue.
Control Play understands the importance of a seamless guest experience. That’s why every song in the Player has volume normalization. This ensures that your volume is consistent between songs and infotainment, unless scheduled otherwise.
The Scheduler allows you to play different digital signage between music videos every 5 minutes. Want a constant stream of infotainment? There’s also an option to have your digital signage play constantly using a video override.
Control Play makes it easy to change your payment information.Simply contact our Billing team through the Chat feature in your Player.
